Introduction (9 – 9:30am)

General Welcome, Why are we here? Overview of Day  Introduce panellists (5 mins each) (We will have two Gloriavale Leavers in attendance - hopefully a male and a female)

Part 1: Laying the Groundwork 9:30am – 10am   This session will explore key indicators & red flags and frameworks for identifying cults, key definitions like coercive control, brainwashing, indoctrination and spiritual abuse. We’ll also look at recruitment and indoctrination. (This is important to be able to identify this in a range of clients you may come across)

Part 2: Unpacking Cultures of Coercion & Spiritual Abuse (10am – 11am)   We’ll introduce Gloriavale as a case study for gaining insight into how unhealthy ideologies can influence group behaviours and set up patterns of control. We'll look at Gloriavale’s defining doctrines and beliefs, and their culture. We'll examine the Gloriavale culture by way of panel discussion and conversations with leavers.

Morning Tea 11 - 11:20am

Part 3: Beneath the Surface : Unmasking the Impacts of Cults on current and former members (11:20 - 12:30pm).

We will delve into the profound effects of cult involvement on lives while in the group, during leaving and in the aftermath.

Lunch 12:30 – 1:30pm

Part Four: From Indoctrination to Integration: Healing from the Trauma of Cults (1:30pm – 2:30pm).

How do leavers find their feet and wings? How can social service agencies, pastoral care workers, therapists, and the general public best provide support for survivors of cults?

Question Time (2:30pm – 3pm)
